History isn't just about memorising dates; it’s about investigating how the world became what it is today. Our goal is to spark your curiosity and teach you how to think like a detective. You’ll learn to look at evidence, ask the right questions, and figure out the "why" behind the biggest events in human history.
Our learning is built around 10 Big Ideas. These are the themes that have shaped the world for thousands of years, including:
Humankind & Change: How people lived and how things moved forward.
Power & Hierarchy: Who was in charge, how they got there, and what they did with it.
Resistance & Democracy: How people fought for their rights and changed the system.
We don’t just read textbooks. We get hands-on with:
Real Evidence: Exploring sources to see if they tell the whole truth.
Connections: Seeing how History links to Art, Geography, and Culture.
Experience: Trips, guest speakers, and special school events that bring the past to life.
Years 1 & 2 (Key Stage 1)
We start with what we know—our own families and the history of our school. Then, we branch out to meet "Movers and Shakers" (people who changed the world) and "Magnificent Monarchs" to see how kings and queens ruled the land.
Years 3 & 4 (Lower Key Stage 2)
Get ready for the big hitters. We travel from the Stone Age all the way to the Iron Age. You’ll dive deep into the Roman Empire, its massive invasion of Britain, and meet the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons who followed. We also explore the world's first great Ancient Civilizations like Egypt and the Indus Valley.
Years 5 & 6 (Upper Key Stage 2)
In the final years, things get even more interesting:
Dynamic Dynasties: Discover the incredible tech and art of Ancient China.
Groundbreaking Greeks: See how the Greeks influenced everything from sports to the way we vote today.
Maafa: A serious look at power, colonialism, and the history of Africa and the slave trade.
Britain at War: An in-depth look at WWI and WWII—the turning points that shaped the modern UK.
